SPOTIFY TO BUYOUT SOUNDCLOUD’S MEGA DJ MUSIC SERVICE
Todays big news is about to change the streaming and downloading game in music.
Rumor has it, music streaming platform, Spotify, is in negotiations to purchase the rights to Soundcloud and all of it’s content. This is a huge topic since Soundcloud was one of the first platforms to offer new musicians, artists, and DJ’s an outlet to release music for FREE.
Over the years, Soundcloud has tightened up their policies and analytics to prevent users from encroaching on copyright infringement, illegal downloads, and the “three-strike” rule. They’ve even started implementing ad generators to their service, causing upcoming DJ’s and producers to use other platforms, like Mixcloud, to release their music.
Soundcloud founders and investors have quoted the company at almost $1 billion, but the negotiation is ongoing and an agreeable price is still pending.
“First, while both SoundCloud and Spotify have large user bases, Spotify has only 75 million active users compared to SoundCloud’s more than 175 million monthly listeners.”
